Our MSc Petroleum Refining Systems Engineering will equip you with the essential knowledge for engineering careers in the oil, gas and petrochemical sectors.

You will gain a thorough understanding of oil refining and associated downstream processing technologies, operations and economics; process safety and operations integrity; and methods for the optimal design of process systems. You will learn about the general economics of the energy sector, oil exploration and production, as well as renewable energy systems.

You’ll also learn more about petroleum refining through our unique work assignments at a virtual oil-refining and chemical company.

About this course

There’s a worldwide shortage of qualified engineers in the petroleum-refining systems-engineering industry. Our MSc Petroleum Refining Systems is filling that gap by providing you with the teaching you need to become a qualified and successful engineer.

Our course is taught by experts in the industry, and combines technologies, operations and economics with modelling, simulation, optimisation, and process design and integration.

A minimum of a 2:1 UK honours degree in either Chemistry, Engineering or Physics, or a recognised equivalent international qualification. We'll also consider relevant work experience if you don't meet these requirements.
