Current developments in bar and restaurant management will be analysed and innovative developments discussed in the context of strategic international food and beverage management.

The module provides students with the knowledge and skills to critically analyse, evaluate and practically apply a range of digital event technologies and social media technologies and tools, in the creation and execution of an integrated digital event strategy. Contemporary marketing theories and concepts will inform the design and execution of social media strategy from branding in website design, to identifying, targeting, engaging, and interacting with event audiences from inception to event evaluation.


This programme offers flexibility to student in terms of career choice and meets the industry demand because there is a wide appeal amongst employers for students who have both event and hospitality sectors knowledge and expertise. By completing the course you will also be entitled to apply for the MA Hospitality and Event Management within five years of completion offering a bite-size approach to those learners who are going back to formal education after a break. Students will be able to use prior experience and certificated learning to gain credits against the programme.


  1. Critically engage with hospitality and event management discourse for future employment or continuing personal and professional development.
  2. Critically evaluate social, cultural, economic and technological trends in the leisure economy to effectively design and manage sustainable hospitality products/services
  3. Synthesise an effective event plan through critical evaluation of current trends, event planning processes and event marketing in an advanced technology driven world.

These fees relate to new entrants only for the academic year indicated for entry onto the course, any subsequent years study may be subject to an annual increase, usually in line with inflation.


The entry requirements for the PgC Hospitality and Event Management would include:

  • An undergraduate honours degree (2.2 minimum) from a UK university or overseas equivalent, or a professional qualification and/or experience considered to be equivalent to the above;
  • A reference from a tutor who has supervised the applicant’s undergraduate studies and/or employer;
  • This course is not available for international students who require a Tier 4 visa.

Students may apply for recognition of prior learning (RPL) subject to the guidelines set out in the RPL Handbook. RPL includes accreditation of prior certificated learning and /or accreditation of prior experiential learning.

Applications are also welcome from individuals who do not possess the above qualifications but who have significant management experience and are able to demonstrate previous non-certificated learning equivalent to the above. In such cases, admission to the programme will be based on an evaluation of the applicant’s ability to continue to benefit from and achieve the award. It is recommended that applicants in this category speak to the course leader to discuss further before applying.

Financial Hardship:

Students can apply to the Dennis Turner Opportunity Fund for help with course related costs however this cannot be used for fees or to cover general living costs.
