This course is offered in partnership with the University of South Wales.
This is a specialist teaching qualification for those wishing to teach literacy to adults. The course is designed to meet the LLUK [Lifelong Learning UK] professional standards. It is a two year, part time course with attendance of two half day sessions per week during the academic year September to June.
Those who already have a PgCE/Cert Ed. only need attend the first year modules in order to gain a Certificate in Teaching Adult Literacy. The first year of the course includes specialist modules while the second year follows generic modules.

About this course
This qualification meets the LLUK standards for teachers of Literacy in the post-compulsory sector. It does not qualify teachers to work in schools.
To gain a place on the course you should have a Level 3 qualification in English as a minimum.

Course programme
During the course, all participants will undertake teaching practice amounting to at least 150 hours over the two years or 75 hours for each year. This will need to be arranged before enrolling on the course.
The course is being offered on Wednesdays 2pm - 7pm.
In the first year the modules are:
- Introduction to Literacy
- Learning Literacy
- Languages in Social Context
In the second year the modules are:
- Curriculum Development for Inclusive Practice
- Independent Study or Option
- Professional Practice 2
Assessment will be based on written assignments, presentations and actual teaching.
