OverviewThis PGCE programme is for graduates who wish to teach Computer Science and ICT in secondary schools. Leeds Trinity University offers Initial Teacher Training courses in a number of subject areas. Students are registered for a Postgraduate Certificate in Education qualification (PGCert) (FHEQ Level 7), and are recommended for the award of QTS to the DfE/NCTL.

Course BenefitsThe secondary programme will prepare you to teach within the secondary age phase.The Leeds Trinity University PGCE Computer Science with ICT programme offers well-structured training to teach pupils across the age and ability range in a diversity of schools, denominational and non-denominational. Taught university training is provided by classroom experienced subject experts. University tutors are dedicated to supporting you throughout the course and into your first job as a teacher. The course qualifies you to teach PGCE Computer Science with ICT at 11–16 with some post-16 enhancement​, providing opportunities to develop particular interests at Key Stage 3, 4 or at Advanced Level.

A good honours degree (2ii or above) in a subject relevant to Computer Science and/or ICT.​GCSE Grade C (or accepted equivalent) English and Mathematics. Course programme

The programme runs for&#; weeks from September to July. At least weeks of training is school-based. There are three stages of training&#;
  • STAGE 1 is based at both Leeds Trinity University and in your first placement school. This stage establishes the foundation of knowledge and understanding necessary for you to benefit from school-based training. This training comprises Subject Knowledge and Pedagogy; Professional Learning and Teaching in the st century; Assessed Block 1 and undertaking your first Masters-level module in Supporting Individual Needs. It also seeks to provide the basic skills necessary for you to function as a teacher.
  • STAGE 2 is based at your second placement school (Assessed Block 2) and assesses your ability to transfer competence from one school to another and improve in your abilities to meet the QTS standards. You will also begin work on your Subject Knowledge and Applied Pedagogy assessment, as well as undertake initial work on your second Masters assignment in Planning for Progression.
  • STAGE 3 is based still at your second placement school (Assessed Block 3) and assesses your ability to meet and excel within the QTS standards. You will also complete all work on your Subject Knowledge and Applied Pedagogy, as well as completing work on your second Masters assignment in Planning for Progression.
School-Based Training (Stages 2 and 3)
Leeds Trinity University has partnerships with schools across the West Yorkshire region (Leeds, Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield) and further afield. Placements are negotiated with schools and trainees so that they take account of the personal circumstances of trainees.
