Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Professional Certificate in Education (PCE)
Reigate College offers these programmes in conjunction with the University of Greenwich . They lead to initial teaching qualifications for those who teach in sixth-form colleges, further education colleges, adult education centres, art colleges, health care or community organisations, the public services and a wide range of commercial and voluntary organisations.
The PGCE is for students who have an undergraduate degree in their taught area and the PCE is for students who have significant work experience and a Level 3 qualification in their taught area (e.g. A levels, BTEC, NVQ).
Both programmes are taught together and are currently offered in a part-time mode of study on Monday evenings from 6.00 9.00pm, with occasional tutorials from 5.15 - 5.45pm. The programmes last 2 years in total. They are aimed at teachers and trainers who are already employed. For applicants not yet in post there may belimited opportunities for teaching placements at Reigate College depending on the subject taught.
The programmes comprise courses at two levels: Levelone covers the skills needed for teaching and classroom management; leveltwocourses extend these skills and help students to explore the theory underpinning teaching and learning.
