You will also be able to select an elective module form a range of topics. You will have an opportunity to develop your practice skills in a range of clinical settings. 

Placements
Physician Associate’s are required to work mainly 9.00 am -5.00 pm Monday – Friday, however on occasions they may work outside of these hours including evenings, nights, weekends and Bank Holidays if required. You will be working alongside medical staffing and the shift patterns they work too.

Will I be able to work during the course?

This is a very intensive two-year course. There is a lot of material to cover in the two years, therefore it is difficult to undertake part-time work.

Will I be able to practise as a PA abroad?

Currently UK qualified PAs can practise in the UK only.

What is the minimum entry requirement for the course? Which undergraduate degrees will you consider?

Applicants are required to hold a minimum of an upper second-class honours degree (2.1 ) in life sciences subjects such as Biomedical Science, Biochemistry, Anatomy, Physiology, Nursing, Midwifery, Physiotherapy and Pharmacy, Optometry, Paramedic Medicine, Podiatry, Physiotherapy, Biomedical Engineering, Human Biosciences, Radiography, Genetics, Medical Science, Pharmacology and Pharmacy.

Applicants should also hold GCSE Maths and English at grade C/4 or above or equivalent qualification.
Meeting the minimum entry requirements does not guarantee a place on the course. Admissions staff will review applications which meet the entry requirement together with personal statement and reference to assess applications.

This academically focused module aims to provide you with the core knowledge of the basic medical sciences of anatomy, physiology, and relevant biochemistry, molecular biochemistry, histology and pathology for the various body systems. You will explore the normal and abnormal human anatomy and physiology and critically evaluate the science underpinning treatment options. You will explore a range of common conditions including the normal function of such disease and why disease occurs. You will explore relevant investigations and treatment options and the evidence base underpinning such options including basic drugs and their pharmacological action.

This module aims to give you the foundation knowledge and skills to become a Physician Associate (PA) . This clinically focused module will integrate the basis of medical sciences of anatomy, physiology, relevant biochemistry molecular biology and pathology for the various body systems. Common clinical conditions for each body system will be covered . The development of your clinical skills will include history taking, consultation and examination skills , written and verbal communication skills the use of pharmacological and other treatments will be taught for each system with the central focus being on the whole person. The module will be facilitated by a range of teaching methods including problem based learning , simulated learning and the use of designated clinical skills facilities.

You will explore the holistic understanding and recognition of the multiple determinants of health and how primary health care can facilitate a range of strategies and services to meet the needs of the population.You will develop an awareness of health inequalities and the challenges working in a multicultural environment, with patients from diverse social and ethnic backgrounds. You will explore the public health and social policy factors that influence health and wellbeing. Decision making, and clinical reasoning and judgement are activities in which practitioners should be proficient at all times providing safe effective practice. The module will allow you to explore a range of critical thinking models, prioritisation , and the use protocols in order to avoid adverse events and patient harm . The module will include evidence based medicine how to seek the best available evidence and keep up to date and how to analyse and interpret evidence and work with guidelines and protocols.

“This module aims to enable the student to further develop knowledge, skills and professional behaviours to achieve Physician Associate (PA) competencies. This will include an understanding of the need to work within a defined sphere of competence. The module will also reinforce the requirements for lifelong learning and continuing professional development for recertification of PA registration.”


This course aims to meet professional development needs in the field of Physician Associate Studies. The programme has been designed in collaboration with clinical stakeholders, service users and carers and members of the University of Wolverhampton academic team, which has over many years provided Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes for a range of healthcare staff.

It is envisaged that medical colleagues will work in partnership with academic staff who have achieved advanced professional qualifications and who are now subject specialists involved in advisory and research roles; locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.

There will be contributions in modules from the Medical Professoriate who are actively involved in research that is influencing care in local, regional, national and international arenas.

Use of the new and highly innovative Physician Associate Laboratory featuring some world-leading technology to help explore anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology. This includes an 'Anatomage Table’ which allows digital dissection of gross anatomy and human (and animal) body system specific images.

BSc (Hons) 2:1 in a Life Sciences Degree - we want our students to start the course with a good knowledge of biological processes, cell functions and cell interactions. Successful candidates will be subsequently required to meet a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check and Occupational Health requirements. You will be expected to meet the costs associated with the DBS clearance process. The charge for this will be a DBS fee of £40.00 and a £6.00 ID check service fee.

You will be expected to travel to placement and provide essential equipment eg: stethoscope.

Applicants who are classed as ‘overseas’ for fee purposes ( will still be considered as long as their country of domicile is the United Kingdom and do not require Tier 4 sponsorship or are in the UK on a Tier 2 visa.

Financial Hardship:

Students can apply to the Dennis Turner Opportunity Fund for help with course related costs however this cannot be used for fees or to cover general living costs.
