In the first two years, you’ll develop your core scientific and experimental skills across the breadth of pharmaceutical sciences including chemistry, biology, pharmacology, microbiology, pharmaceutics, manufacturing and quality control.
In the final year, you’ll use your skills and knowledge to carry out a research project in a specific area of pharmaceutical or regulatory sciences. This will give you the opportunity to develop your skills further in a particular area and work closely with researchers from the Department.
The course has been designed with experts from the pharmaceutical industry to give you the skills and knowledge for a career in the pharmaceutical sciences, regulatory sciences and other related sectors, such as clinical research, regulatory affairs or the cosmetics industry.
About this course
Learn about the entire process of turning a drug molecule into a medicine. You’ll be prepared for a career as a research scientist or a manufacturing expert in the pharmaceutical industry.
This course will expose you to all stages of the drug development process, including how drugs are discovered, tested and turned into a suitable medicine which patients can take. You’ll also learn about medicines manufacturing and control, clinical trials and the regulatory assessments which a medicine must undergo before being released to the public.
Graduates are well suited to research careers within the pharmaceutical industry and many also choose to go on to postgraduate study. You’ll benefit from our strong links with the pharmaceutical industry, with recent employers including GlaxoSmithKline, AstraZeneca, and UCB.
You will need a strong performance in Chemistry and a second science or mathematics subject as part of your entry qualifications. The second subject can be:
