Our programme is taught as a full-time, four-year programme incorporating a foundation year. The foundation year serves to equip students, without appropriate entry qualifications, with a way to enter the BSc (Hons) in Pharmacology and Physiology undergraduate degree programme at Medway School of Pharmacy. The programme intends to immerse students in laboratory-based science and is taught by leading experts in pharmacology and physiology. Throughout the programme there will be a strong emphasis on both laboratory research, and future employability. Facilities The Medway School of Pharmacy hosts state-of-the-art research facilities which comprise three electrophysiological suites, microscopy and vascular imaging facilities, a dedicated virology laboratory, biochemical and immunological laboratories, as well as core quantitative PCR and cell culture facilities. Outcomes The aims of the programme are: To equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles of several relevant scientific disciplines, with an emphasis on pharmacology. To give an understanding of drug actions in the various physiological systems and a comprehensive understanding of how the scientific discipline of pharmacology is integral to the drug discovery and development process.     Assessment Students in the foundation year will take modules worth total of 120 credits. These credits will be obtained by passing the module assessments. Modules are assessed by a mixture of coursework and examination to produce an overall percentage grade and specific module marks. It is these marks, combined with the 120 credits that are taken into consideration when determining progression onto an Honours course. All applicants will have access to full University learning and support facilities, for example, the library, student union and student support. Careers Careers are available in pharmaceutical and drug discovery companies and in fields such as drug regulation, teaching, pharmaceutical marketing, scientific writing and journalism.
