Study a degree in philosophy and Spanish in the heart of London. This course is open to beginners of the Spanish language, or those with previous knowledge. Particular teaching strengths are in philosophy of mind, philosophy of science and ancient philosophy, taught within one of the most distinguished philosophy departments in the UK. The Department of Spanish, Portuguese & Latin American Studies is active in all fields of Hispanic language, literature and cultural history.

Course programme
Courses are divided into modules. Each year you will normally take modules totalling 120 credits.
In your first year you are required to take 60 credits in Philosophy and 60 credits in Spanish.
Required ModulesPhilosophy
You are required to take one 15 credit module from each of the following groups plus one further module from any of the groups:
Group A- Greek Philosophy I (15 credits)
- Modern Philosophy I (15 credits)
- Ethics I (15 credits)
- Political Philosophy I (15 credits)
- Elementary Logic (15 credits)
- Metaphysics I (15 credits)
- Epistemology I (15 credits)

Spanish
In your first year, there are no optional units. You are required to take:
- Core Spanish Language (30 credits)
- Compulsory Global Iberias Module (30 credits)
2nd Year
In your second year you are required to take 60 credits in Philosophy and 60 credits in Spanish.

In your second year, you are required to choose three level 5 modules (15 credits each) from at least two of the following groups, each of which may typically include the following modules:

- Political Philosophy II: Theories of Freedom OR Justice (15 credits) (running in alternate years)

3rd Year
You will spend your third year studying or working abroad in a Spanish speaking country. You can choose to study at one of our partner universities, and you will also have the opportunity to apply for the English Language Assistantship Programme or to undertake an internship or work placement in a Spanish-speaking environment.
