UNIT ONE: An Introduction to the Modelling Industry

The vital information that would-be models need in order to be successful and to manage their careers. This unit will cover every aspect from understanding the booking process to learning the industry-specific terminology. Do you know your 'look book' from your 'go-sees'? You will be given all the tools you need to behave like a professional model and to show that you have a real insight into the industry. Renowned as one of the most competitive professions, students will find the wide range of information invaluable and
will learn about everything from dealing with an agent to how to stand out at a casting.

UNIT TWO: Beauty Essentials

Knowing how to make the best of their appearance and being able to adapt their look to suit the needs of specific clients is what keeps top models in work. This unit gives you one-to-one make-up tuition with a top make-up artist. As well as practical demonstrations and professional advice, you will be given vital advice and help in skin and hair care along with learning key model make-up techniques to allow you to achieve a wide variety of looks. Being adaptable is often the key to success and students will
learn how to achieve everything from fresh-faced, natural make-up to styles suitable for evening and high fashion shoots and shows.

UNIT THREE: Acting and Presentation

Modelling is about much more than just posing in front of the camera - it's often about creating a believable character which will sell a product in a photograph or on screen. This unit will be led by a top local actress and model who will work with students to make them aware of their mannerisms and body language - and show them how to use these traits to their best advantage. Practical sessions will use role play, improvisation and mock auditions to help participants be more aware of themselves, along with building their confidence and awareness in front of the camera.

UNIT FOUR: Professional Photography

For any model to really succeed, they need to perform well in front of a camera. A greater understanding of photographic
equipment and camera work on both location and in a studio setting will help you work them to your best advantage. This unit guides you through the essentials such as health and safety, preparation for photographic bookings and managing professional relationships at a photoshoot. You will learn how to create a working portfolio and will observe and work alongside professional models with a top photographer who will be dispensing invaluable advice.

UNIT FIVE: Health and Fitness

For models, good health is essential and this can only be achieved by the right lifestyle. This unit looks at the key ways of reaching this goal so that would-be models are healthy inside and out.
Content includes understanding the effect of lifestyle choices and media influences, the role of the model as an influence on public perceptions, maintaining fitness through exercise, and diet and fitness action plans for optimal health and wellbeing. Guided by a personal trainer, you will learn the differences between merely looking good and being mentally and physically healthy.

UNIT SIX: Essential Business Skills

At the end of the day, modelling is still a business with one major product on offer - you. That's why it's essential that anyone thinking of entering the industry knows how to handle their business affairs. Most models are classed as self-employed which means that you need to ensure that you are aware of your legal obligations. This extremely important unit covers insurance,
tax and national insurance, contractual agreements and health and safety legislation. At the same time it will give you a greater understanding of marketing and the responsibilities of your agent so you are armed with all the knowledge to keep your finances in good working order.

UNIT SEVEN: Choreography and Catwalk

This unit is led by a highly experienced choreographer who will put students through their paces in this extremely important area of modelling.
Students will learn about walking on the catwalk, exits and turns, basic routines, wardrobe management and how to adapt choreography to different music styles. As part of this highly practical unit, students will be involved in a fashion show finale.
