Extra Curricular Activites
All students can add to their main programme of study by taking part in a wide range of clubs, groups, societies and courses. Not only are the activities fun, they also develop skills and provide new and fulfilling experiences, as well as enhancing applications to Higher Education and employment.
What is the course about?
The course takes a multi-disciplinary approach, encouraging the development of different methods of enquiry, with the focal point being the performer and the performance. The course is based on the interaction between the theory and practice of Physical Education.
The subject content is divided into the following units, which are assessed in both years.
AS Level
Unit 1: Application of Anatomical & Physiological Knowledge to Improve Performance (2562)
Unit 2: Performance & its Improvement through Critical Thinking (2564)
Unit 3: Contemporary Studies in Physical Education (2563)
Unit 1 and 3 will be assessed by external exams and coursework.
Unit 3 will be assessed through coursework and practical application.
If students wish to progress to the A2 Level, they must obtain a grade D or above at AS Level.
A2 Level
Unit 4: Exercise & Sports Physiology (2566)
Unit 5: Historical Studies in Physical Education (2565)
Unit 6: The Improvement of Effective Performance & Critical Evaluation (2567)
Unit 4 and 5 will assessed by external exams and coursework.
Unit 6 will be assessed through coursework and practical application.
Research Skills
Students will be entered for a Level 2 qualification in ICT as a means of improving their computing and presentation skills.
Study Skills
As part of Stanmore Sixth Form College's excellent support network, Literacy and Numeracy support is available to any student enrolled on a course, depending on the student's individual needs (determined during Induction by an assessment). Support is provided through the Skills for Life Study Plus Programme. Students can attend either one-to-one or group sessions in a friendly, stimulating and supportive environment.
