About this course
You will need four GCSEs grade A-C, including English and Science. Regular participation in sport at a competitive level is essential.

AS Level
Unit 1: Participation in Sport and Recreation
Healthy and Active Lifestyles:
* What a healthy lifestyle involves and how exercise affects your body (muscles, heart etc)
* The different aspects of fitness, eg speed, strength, flexibility, etc)
* Fitness testing and training methods
Opportunities and Pathways:
* How competitive sport has developed from ancient times to the modern Olympics
* Organisations that develop sport and the methods they use to encourage participation
Unit 2: The Critical Sports Performer
* Demonstrating, analysing and impoving your performance as a player, coach or official
* A local and national study of your chosen sport
A2 Level
Unit 3: Preparation for Optimum Performance
* Short and long-term preparation for sport, eg types of stretching, carbo-loading, stress and motivation, energy fuels
* Centres of Excellence and the role of national agencies
Unit 4: The Developing Sports Performer
* Writing your own sports development plan
* A study of sport in a different country

How is the course assessed?
At both AS and A2 Levels there will be one written examination and coursework, of equal weighting (ie 50% each).
Fees
No Course Fees for Under 19's. Over 19's must pay, or claim Level 2 or Level 3 Entitlement for FREE courses .
What next?
You may progress to a degree in PE or Sport Science, Sports Therapy or Physiotherapy (if combined with an A Level Science) or go directly to employment in the recreation and leisure industry.
