The Physics IGCSE Course is designed to develop a broad understanding of facts, concepts and principles and teach skills in physical investigation and give students the ability to evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of modern scientific developments. Each lesson of the Physics IGCSE course begins with a set of clearly stated objectives and an explanation of its place in the overall programme of study. Effective learning is encouraged through frequent activities and self-assessment tests. The course includes 12 Tutor-marked assignments of which two are mock exam assignments. Students will need to access the internet to carry out some of the course activities.

About this course

The Physics IGCSE Course is designed to develop a broad understanding of facts, concepts and principles and teach skills in physical investigation and give students the ability to evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of modern scientific developments.

In combination with other suitable IGCSE entry subjects the course is an ideal preparation for those who wish to go on to study Physics at AS and A2 level. Each lesson of the Physics IGCSE course begins with a set of clearly stated objectives and an explanation of its place in the overall programme of study. Effective learning is encouraged through frequent activities and self-assessment tests.

There are no prerequisites for starting this course.

Please Note: We cannot accept students who are under 16 years old on this course. We do have an alternative IGCSE course option for students who are under 16.

Student Support:

Every student receives a personal tutor with whom they should keep in regular contact. All tutors are fully qualified experienced teachers holding either a Postgraduate Certificate in Education or a degree in education. Most work from home and are able to offer flexible contact times. The tutor will contact students with an introductory letter and a telephone call to help decide on a study plan. They will also let the student know the best ways and times for contact.

There is no limit on how often you can contact your tutor. The advice and encouragement our tutors provide are an important part of your learning experience. You can contact your tutor by Phone, Post or Email. There are tutor-marked assignments (TMA's) in every course. These help the student to consolidate their learning and prepare for examinations.

All tutors have a Freephone 0800 telephone number and most will have Skype capabilities. Whilst you are still actively submitting assignments, you should expect to be in contact with your tutor regularly. Remember, to get the most out of your tutor, you will need to tell them when you need assistance.

Course programme

The Physics IGCSE course is divided into seven modules. It is set out as follows:

  • Module 1: Forces and Motion
  • Module 2: Electricity
  • Module 3: Waves
  • Module 4: Energy Resources and Energy Transfer
  • Module 5: Solids, Liquids and Gases
  • Module 6: Magnetism and Electromagnetism
  • Module 7: Radioactivity, Particles and Astrophysics

The Syllabus:

The Physics IGCSE course is designed to prepare students for the Edexcel IGCSE Physics (4PH1) Specification for examinations in May/June 2020 or later years.

Examinations:

Assessment is by two written examinations. There is no coursework with this specification.

  • Exam Paper 1 - Physics 1 (2 Hours) is 61.1% of the total marks. There is A mixture of different question styles, including multiple-choice questions, short-answer questions, calculations and extended open-response questions.
  • Exam Paper 2 - Physics 2 (1 Hour, 15 Minutes) is 38.9% of the total marks. There is A mixture of different question styles, including multiple-choice questions, short-answer questions, calculations and extended open-response questions.
