Description of Major
Management of information and technology is critical to the success of all organizations. The structure of information systems, management of the functions, and control of the information resources is necessary. The MIS major focuses on developing technical and managerial competency and specifically deals with effectively utilizing information for operations and organizational decision making. It includes work information requirements analysis, data base management, networks, and telecommunications. A special focus on understanding communications and network structure is provided. The support of workgroups and teams, and improving their productivity is a key goal as is the transmission and use of information in society.

In the first two years at FSU, students should take courses to complete the following: General Education requirements, Writing requirement, Multicultural Course requirements, and Prerequisite Coursework requirements. Some courses may fulfill requirements in multiple areas. Electives in the first two years should focus on gaining additional exposure to the social and behavioral sciences, and on improving communication and analytical reasoning skills.
