. This is a one year programme designed to improve your scientific knowledge and understanding to a level where you will be suitable for a science degree in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences. You are guaranteed a place provided you meet the entry criteria for your chosen degree.
In studying the Foundation Year you will take courses in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (where appropriate) plus Communication Skills and ICT. Finally, you will complete a project that is specific or closely related to your anticipated degree programme.

If you have followed a non-standard educational route and have been, for example, educated at home, your application will be considered against the standard entry criteria of the course to which you applied. You will be required to demonstrate that you meet the academic entry requirements as specified for the course. Return-to-learn students are those who have had a substantial period away from any formal learning. Often such learners have pursued careers or raised a family. The University understands that students come from many different bachelorckgrounds, with varying qualifications, careers and skills, but they often bring to their studies a high degree of motivation and experience.
The University recognises that standard selection measures and procedures may not enable these learners to demonstrate fully their suitability for their chosen course. Where appropriate, admissions officers will seek and consider alternative evidence in order to give such learners equivalent consideration. Where they deem this alternative evidence meets entry criteria fully the learner will not be required to meet the standard academic entry requirements.

IELTS overall score of 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in each sub-test

Applicants to this course can change to any of our Physics-bachelorsed degree courses at any time up to the start of the academic year.
Applications are considered on the bachelorsis of the information on the UCAS form. Promising candidates are invited for a visit day which includes an academic interview.
We would be interested in any work experience, although we realise that this is very difficult to find in relevant areas.

We welcome applicants who are returning to education and are as flexible as possible when making offers. 
We are happy to consider applicants from overseas. We have no quota limitations for overseas applicants.
We are happy to consider applicants who wish to defer. We normally also guarantee a place in the current year should the applicant's Gap Year plans change.
If you have re-sat individual modules to improve your grades, we will consider your application according to the standard selection process. If you are planning to re-sit the final Year 13 examinations, or have already done so, the University will consider your application, but we may require further information in order to make an informed judgment on your application.
We are happy to consider applicants who are taking their examinations in different sittings.
If you applied in the previous year and your application was not successful you may apply again. Your application will be considered against the standard course entry criteria for that year of entry.  In your new application you should demonstrate how your application has improved.  We may draw upon all information from your previous applications or any previous registrations at the University as a student when assessing your suitability for your chosen course.If you are applying for a place for the same year of entry through UCAS Extra, you should provide additional evidence of your suitability for the course. If you are applying through clearing you are required to meet the clearing requirements. In both UCAS Extra and clearing the places will be subject to availability.

Graduates in Physics with Philosophy will be well suited to employment in many areas, from academic research to work in industry. The abilities to identify, analyse and solve problems and to present a solution clearly and concisely are valuable skills in the workplace and provide a good intellectual bachelorsis for vocational training.
