This course is ideal for you if you are interested in a career in policing and law enforcement. It will enable you to gain a greater understanding of the complex nature of policing and its relationship with the criminal justice system. The course is designed to give you an integrated knowledge of policing and criminal justice. It explores both the theoretical foundations of policing and criminal justice and the application of this knowledge to contemporary issues of crime, social control and justice. The course provides a sound theoretical basis in policing and studies, as well as a detailed understanding of the complex nature of crime and the criminal justice system. It addresses traditional subjects such as community policing and philosophies of policing, but also criminal investigation and European policing. Develop skills of research and analysis A key focus of the course is to enable you to undertake research in the area of policing and criminal justice. Lectures include a number of case studies of ‘real life’ research undertaken by academic staff in the Department of Law and Criminal Justice Studies.
