The Political Economy of the Middle East MA is an interdisciplinary course that introduces students to political economy from a wide range of academic disciplines. The course has a strong emphasis on helping students think critically, creatively and effectively about promoting social justice, equality, democracy, sustainability and social change through political economy.

Year 1
Courses are divided into modules. You will normally take modules totalling 180 credits.

Required ModulesYou are required to take the following modules:
- Political Economy of the Middle East: Theory & Practice (40 credits)
- Dissertation (60 credits)
The Dissertation includes 24 hours of research methods training spread out over terms 1 and 2.
Optional Modules
In addition, you are required to take four modules (totalling 80 credits) from a range of optional modules that may include:
- The US & The Middle East: Intervention And Mediation Since 1945 (20 credits)
- Political Economy of Authoritarianism in the Middle East (20 credits)
- States, markets and people in the contemporary Middle East (20 credits)
- Any Level 7 (Master’s) modules offered in the Department of Middle Eastern Studies, including those listed above
- Up to 40 credits of Level 7 (Master's) modules offered in other departments or institutes at King's, subject to approvals
- One Level 7 language module (20 credits) from the Modern Language Centre.
If you are a part-time student, you will take Political Economy of the Middle East: Theory & Practice and two optional modules in your first year. In your second year, you will take your dissertation module and a further two optional modules.
