Polygraphy, i.e. polysomnography without EEG study, is a diagnostic-instrumental examination that allows the monitoring and evaluation of different cardiorespiratory parameters during sleep. In particular, the examination records, through special sensors, the progress of breathing and heartbeat and finds application in the diagnosis of sleep breathing disorders such as: obstructive apneas (the most epidemiologically relevant), central apneas, alveolar hypoventilation. These disorders are linked to numerous pulmonary, cardiological and other pathologies, therefore they are of great importance in the diagnosis (and subsequent therapy) of COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), heart failure, obesity, neuromuscular diseases, stroke, Parkinson's disease, deformity of the rib cage, diaphragmatic pathologies. It is advisable to undergo polygraphy (polysomnography without EEG study), on medical advice, in the presence of symptoms (day and night), usually associated with these disorders: drowsiness, feeling on awakening that you have not rested well, morning headache, difficulty concentrating , mood changes, snoring, sleep apnea (noticed by the partner), nocturnal awakenings with a sense of suffocation, nocturia (need to urinate repeatedly during the night). efficacy of ventilotherapy in correcting respiratory alterations. Polygraphy - nocturnal cardiorespiratory monitoring does not require any particular preparation, it is sufficient to remove any enamel from the finger to which the pulse oximeter will be applied.
