The Bachelor's degree program in Polymer Engineering Technologies at the JKU is part of a broad field of study in plastics engineering and sciences. This cutting-edge engineering program focuses on base-knowledge skills pertaining to the value chain of innovative polymer engineering and products, including manufacturing and assembling polymer materials, hands-on education about the wide range of processing technologies, and expertise in designing and creating products. About this course

The curriculum covers essential areas in the field of polymer engineering, giving students unique, hands-on opportunities to address real-world problems. Special attention is given to providing:

Excellent base-knowledge education in mathematical, scientific, and technical disciplines pertaining to polymer engineering
Solid, specialized combination courses in key areas such as materials science and testing, polymer processing, and product design

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Graduates become experts in materials selection (including testing), processing, and polymer applications, as well as in the design of polymer products for a wide variety of fields. Graduates are highly qualified to take on active roles in various areas of research and development, production, applications technology, marketing and sales, and/or management. Common professional fields include:

  • Developing new polymer compounds, multifunctional polymer composites and hybrid materials
  • Material-specific polymer processing, including enhancing and optimizing process technologies
  • Designing and constructing plastic products, including product specifications, qualifications, quality assurance, and certification
  • Recycling and the circular economy

Additional information

Newly enrolled students can take revision courses before beginning studies:

Preparation courses: These courses have been designed for new students and provide a condensed review of material taught at higher levels schools in order to prepare students for initial university-level lectures. Attendance is optional.

Mentoring program: JKU faculty members meet with newly enrolled students in small groups and provide tips and advice pertaining to studies.

JKU Young Polymer Scientists: A unique, comprehensive educational program designed to provide gifted high-school students with an opportunity to take part in workshops during the school year and learn more about the fields of chemistry and polymer engineering.
