Content In order to satisfy the Health And Safety At Work Act (1974), portable appliances are expected to be safe to use. It is thus important that trained personnel can take the necessary steps to ensure that this is so, by carrying out a 'PAT Test' of all portable equipment in the workplace. Learning Objectives: · Know the definition of 'portable' · Understand the need for PAT testing. · Understand the term competence in relation to PAT testing. · Understand the safety and legal issues. · Gain awareness of the Electricity At Work Act (1989) · Understand the methods used in PAT testing · Practically relate the tests to an actual PAT-Testing piece of equipment. · Able to practically PAT test a variety of portable equipment · Able to interpret results and identify the pass/fail criteria · Recognise the need for recording the results of tests · Know how to judge the frequency of testing Exam/Assessment: 1 hour long exam using Gola (computer based exam) Assessment City and Guilds 2377
