This new Masters course will provide students with an opportunity to develop knowledge in the concepts and theories for emergency planning, resilience, business continuity and disaster management.
This course is suitable for those who are already working within emergency planning as well as those looking to embark on a career within the field.
The course aims to offer a flexible approach to the subjects studied and those already working in this area will be able to develop further their knowledge skills and experience. You will develop valuable skills in communication and strategic leadership. You will also develop a wide range of inter-personal skills for effective use in multi-agency teams. There will be opportunities to take part in exercises and training in simulated emergency settings with a wide range of professional and other Key Stakeholders and organisations involved in emergency planning.

About this course
Normally candidates for this course will hold a first degree or evidence of level 6 / 7 study achieved at or above a minimum pass grade or equivalent However, candidates will be considered for the course that have experience related to the areas of study for example already working in emergency planning resilience and response.
If English is not the applicant’s first language they will need to have a TOEFL score of 550 or above, or an IELTS score of 6.0 or above, or evidence of English proficiency equivalent to these scores.

Course programme
The course will develop students’ working knowledge of the principles and practice of emergency planning and the underpinning policy and it will develop valuable skills in communication and strategic leadership. There will be opportunities to take part in exercises and training in simulated emergency settings with a wide range of professional organisations and other important organisations involved in emergency planning.
The course is composed of three intermediate levels; the PG certificate and the PG diploma are composed of 60 credits each and consist of a range of subjects. In order to gain the full Masters a 60 credit independent study module must be studied for which there are three options – see table 1 for more details.
