Description

This Postgraduate Programme combines hands-on modules, taught by experts from the University of Leuven and external experts in the field, with a work placement. The programme offers comprehensive training and an in-depth understanding of translation and localisation issues and tools, focussing on the practical knowledge and skills needed in the industry.

Participants learn how to master the major technologies and linguistic resources used by a wide range of tech-savvy language professionals, such as technical writers, translators, localisers and subtitlers. The curriculum also helps the participants become competent in developing new ideas and gives them the opportunity to apply their knowledge in the field through local or international work placement.

About this course

Graduates have basic knowledge of translation technologies, and advanced knowledge in their fields of specialisation (e.a. website localisation, software localisation, machine translation, subtitling). They also have hands-on experience through a work placement of (minimum) 450 hours.

Upon completion of this programme, you can become a specialised translator or revisor in the field of your choice. You also have the possibility to work as a website and/or software localiser, technical writer, subtitler, post-editor, or localisation project manager.

Furthermore, you have the possibility to become a researcher in translation technology or a consultant for professionals interested in adopting various language technologies.

Course programme

This programme is designed for students and professionals who want to learn about localisation, translation technology and specialised translation issues, or to deepen their insight in those areas.

Participants must hold a master's degree or a bachelor's degree with relevant experience. The master's degree does not have to relate to the field of translation or language studies, unless you choose a translation workshop (see programme for more information). However, a master's degree is highly recommended to avoid problems during the modules in the first semester and, even more importantly, to complete the work placement successfully. Participants who only hold a bachelor's degree may be admitted on the basis of demonstrable professional expertise. Contact the organisation committee for more information.
