Postgraduate Diploma in Banking

This qualification enables students to develop an understanding of generic banking topics at a strategic level, and also to specialise in certain technical or departmental areas of the bank.

Students who have achieved this Postgraduate Diploma will demonstrate competence in a wide range of banking-related aspects. The qualification will help students to establish themselves as credible participants in their field. It will also open doors for advancement to more senior positions within the banking sector.

The Post Graduate Diploma in Banking will allow you to build solid senior banking knowledge and based on this could offer you potential career prospects at a regional or head office level in banking. The typical student on this qualification would be an individual with a commerce related degree coupled with some years of banking experience at management level.

Some of the compulsory subjects covered include bank risk management, ethics and regulation as well as international banking. Electives will allow you to specialise in different areas of banking, like retail and private banking, corporate and investment banking, credit or investment. You will also conduct an integrated banking project, where you research and report on topical issues in the banking industry.

The banking sector has evolved into an industry that employs highly skilled individuals. Today, degreed individuals are preferred for many entry level jobs and an undergraduate degree is no longer sufficient to climb the career ladder further. Solid knowledge in advanced banking concepts and how a bank operates as a business are required at a minimum. Apart from this, specialised knowledge of different areas of banking and analytical/research skills are expected from candidates applying for jobs in more senior roles.
