The potter is the person involved in the manufacture and / or sales of pots and other kitchen utensils, generic name of a container suitable for cooking food directly on the fire. Generally circular in shape, rarely oval or square with rounded corners, it is equipped at the ends of one or more handles. The oldest finds of pots are made of terracotta or soapstone, while the first metal to be used was bronze. During the 1700s, as Menon reports in the Cuisinière Bourgeoise, silver cookware was produced for the richest kitchens. From the mid-nineteenth century the enameled iron pots appeared, and from the beginning of the twentieth century aluminum began to be used, only in the 1930s did the first stainless steel pots appear, a metal that from the 60s became, for reasons of hygiene and durability, the material most used in kitchen equipment. In some cases it is made of bimetal, that is a thin sheet of stainless steel coupled to a thicker sheet of copper, where the former covers the internal surface. In the same way they can have a more or less treated surface and be more or less non-stick: natural, Teflon, ceramic and vitreous enamel.
