The Foundation degree in Advanced Veterinary Nursing Studies is taught at Solihull College, one of Oxford Brookes Universitys partner colleges. Course programme
In the first year you will be introduced to studying at higher education level including learning critical thinking and academic writing; building up a portfolio to support your professional development. You will also gain practical handling and husbandry skills with a wide range of exotic and farm animal species.
The modules you will study in Year One are: Professional and Academic Skills, Practical Animal Husbandry, Enterprise Skills, Principles of Animal Behaviour, Pharmacy and Pharmacology (double module), UK Wildlife Treatment and Rehabilitation and Supportive & Palliative Nursing.
In Year 2 you complete the RCVSs DipAVN modules including Evidenced-based Nursing, Professionalism for the Small Animal RVN (legislation, ethics and systems of delivery)(double module), Companion Animal Applied Physiology for the RVN, Companion Animal Applied Pathophysiology for the RVN, Advanced Anaesthesia for the RVN, Small Animal Medical Nursing and Small Animal Surgical Nursing.
