Course programme

The speed and quality of the first moments of emergency care can have a dramatic impact on outcomes. If you’re already a clinical practitioner, or studying to become one, this course can give you the skills you need to make that difference.

If you’re an allied health professional, this unusual course lets you develop your skills by specialising in trauma care for patients before they’re transferred to hospital. It’s ideal for qualified doctors, nurses, operating department practitioners, emergency-services medics and paramedics. It’s also suitable for students on undergraduate nursing and operating department practitioner courses.

Together, we’ll explore the rationale for managing the care of trauma patients before they arrive at hospital: advanced life support (including paediatric), major incident management, pre-hospital obstetric emergency training, and pre-hospital trauma life support. You’ll learn to apply your own experience and research to analyse and develop your working practice.

Our excellent modern facilities include simulation equipment and skills laboratories. You’ll also receive teaching outdoors, in ‘real-life’ scenarios, and use our virtual learning environment.

Our course content is informed by the expertise of a number of specialist professional bodies, including the Joint Royal Colleges Ambulance Liaison Committee; the Royal College of Surgeons (England); the Resuscitation Council; the Advanced Life Support Group; the British Association for Immediate Care; and the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care.
