PRE-LEGAL ENHANCEMENT PROGRAMME (For Students on Advanced Courses)
All our enhancement courses are taken in addition to A Levels or other advanced courses. They are designed to help students gain a practical knowledge and understanding of a vocational area, or to contribute to a range of activities in the local community - and gain a respected qualification
Introduced for the first time in 2002, the Pre-Legal course has already proved very popular. Although you don't need to be studying AS or A Level Law to join, you should be interested in entering one of the legal professions as a career. In fact, it is designed to help you decide whether the legal life is for you!
The course involves visits to a range of legally-related institutions such as legal practices, law courts and advice bureaux, together with visits from practising professionals. There's plenty of opportunity to investigate interesting legal issues through research, case studies and hot-seating debates. The aim is to help you gain insight into what legal work is really like.
Assessment is by coursework, which includes a portfolio of evidence, and an oral presentation to a group of peers. You'll also need to demonstrate your maturity and staying power by attending well and contributing actively! The awarding body, ASET, is nationally recognised by employers and universities. But most importantly, apart from gaining a qualification, you'll find you gain in confidence-and you'll no doubt discover whether you are cut out for this type of career.
The teaching staff have the advantage of being both academically qualified and experienced in professional fields, additionally there is a strong link to higher education courses elsewhere in the college.
