Preparation for Independence.  This programme is a good starting point for learners who have moderate learning difficulties or for those learners who have successfully completed our Aspire programme.
Preparation for independence is a mixture of independence and employability skills with an emphasis on developing communication, English and maths and enterprise skills for employability.

Young people on this programme will take a Certificate in Independence through Gateway Qualifications as well as a City & Guilds qualification in maths and English.  The course is a small group allowing personalised learning opportunities in a supported environment. This programme is idea to develop skills for life increase confidence and self esteem.
Preparation for Independence is a three day offer 9am - 3.45pm.

Learners will have the chance to work in the college shop as well as access other college based work experience opportunities and community action projects.

Learner need to be working at entry 2 to access this programme. Most young people will have an EHCP.

Early application is recommended.

In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a Welcome Event/Interview.
