This blended learning module will:
Prepare pharmacists to prescribe as independent and supplementary prescribers
Enable successful students to record their prescribing qualification with the General Pharmaceutical Council
Enable pharmacists to study alongside other healthcare professionals to enhance their knowledge and clinical skills
Enable pharmacists to gain critical awareness of contemporary issues in order to become safe, competent and effective prescribers, within current legal and professional guidelines
It consists of:
8 taught days
e-learning modules equivalent to 8 taught days
10 days individualised guided study
12 x 7.5 hour days (90 hours) supervised clinical practice

About this course
Applicants for this module should hold professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
In addition pharmacists should have a minimum of 2 year’s general experience and 1 years experience in the field they wish to prescribe in.
All applicants should demonstrate clinical competency in the area of practice in which they intend to prescribe and have support from their employing organisation.

This module is provided as part of this interdisciplinary Framework within the Faculty of Health Studies. The Framework enables students to create an individualised programme of study that will meet either their needs and/or the employers’ needs for a changing diverse workforce within a modern organisation.
Pharmacist students may also choose to do this module as a stand alone module, or as part of the Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (Community or Secondary Care) run by the School of Pharmacy.
