This 3 year course will qualify you to teach in a primary school. It is designed to respond to the government's criteria for initial teacher training. You will gain a broad grounding in the whole primary curriculum, choosing to specialise in the Foundation Phase (3 7), or Key Stage 2 (7 11) in year 3.

About this course
The course aims to enable understudies to: Will be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of what constitutes an appropriate curriculum within the three teaching areas, Language Skills, Literacy and Communication; Developing Welsh and Mathematical Development
Will start to develop some appropriate teaching and learning strategies to apply their knowledge practically within the areas of Language Skills, Literacy and Communication; Developing Welsh, English and Mathematical Development;
Will gain an initial understanding of how to deliver literacy, numeracy and ICT skills across other teaching fields and areas in the Foundation Phase;
Will understand the interrelationship of the teaching areas of Language Skills, Literacy and Communication; Developing Welsh and Mathematical Development with the skills and dimensions across the curriculum.
Pathway 2: will be able to speak, read and write Welsh for the purposes of promoting the everyday Welsh of learners in line with their personal linguistic competence and will also demonstrate a basic knowledge and awareness of how to promote the development of learners learning English as an additional language.
The BA Primary Education, BSc Design and Technology Secondary Education and BA Childhood Studies courses opens up a range of opportunities for you who are interested in specialising in a teaching career. Many of our graduates have gone on to work in the primary, secondary, tertiary or higher education sectors. Many of our BA in Childhood studies students have applied for our PGCE course.
But, our graduates can look forward to opportunities in a range of other career pathways. These interesting career opportunities could include :

GCSE grade B in Mathematics, English Language and GCSE grade C in Science; for the Welsh medium course – grade C Welsh required. If you do not possess the desired GCSEs then it may be possible to take one of our standalone tests. Please contact the School for further information.
At least 240 points at GCE/VCE level with a minimum of two Cs at A Level preferably in curricular subjects.
