Course programme
This programme is designed to take students with little or no experience and equip them with a wide range of pre-history skills.
The course will run in 2 and 3 day blocks over a period of five months. It is possible to camp on site when attending the course and there will be some evening work.
You will be expected to produce a small portfolio of evidence to complete the award.
Target Group
The course has been designed as a stand alone qualification for anyone with an interest in primitive technology, either as a career or for general study. Interest has been expressed in this programme by bushcraft students as well as those interested in archaeology and other cultures.
Content
During the course we hope to recreate the general day to day equipment of our early ancestors and to cover amongst others the following subjects in depth:
- Flintwork
- Preparation and use of buckskin
- Bow making and other primitive weapons
- Barkwork and cordage
- Bone and Antler work
- Health and Safety
Accreditation
This entire qualification is accredited by the NCFE as a level three qualification. This means that the subjects mentioned above are taught and learned at an advanced level. The process of assessment and accreditation is run by the NCFE who are responsible for the quality assurance and control.
Certification
The course leads to an NCFE level 3 qualification in 'Mixed Crafts' backed up by Woodcraft School certification detailing the exact content of the course programme.
Woodcraft School is an accredited NCFE Centre and head instructor, John Rhyder has written several totally new and bespoke qualifications for bushcraft (see our other courses) that are not available anywhere else in the country. NCFE are perhaps the oldest organisation of their kind in the country operating in the same way as other awarding bodies such as City and Guilds etc.
Progression
Successful candidates could use the qualification for continued professional development or progress.
