Course Aim

This Course is intended for all persons wishing to gain a basic awareness in the use of hazardous substances in the workplace.

This training programme, which should be a minimum of 2.5 hours has been designed to provide essential knowledge and understanding of handling hazardous substances in the workplace. Good health & safety standards rely on employers and employees working together to reduce the risks and prevent accidents and ill health arising form work related activities.

Chemfreight DGT has designed this course to give employees an awareness of hazardous substances.

Course content

The programme is designed to:

• Explain what is meant by a hazardous substance

• Explain how hazardous substances can cause ill-health and injury

• Show how hazardous substances can be identified

• Show how exposure to hazardous substances can be practically controlled

• Explain the purpose of conducting COSHH assessments

• Explain the provisions of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1999

Areas covered:

• Definition and types of hazardous substances in the workplace

• Health effects of hazardous substances and their causes

• COSHH assessments and control options

• Responsibilities imposed by the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations
1999

All personnel will receive an aide-memoire booklet containing all the relevant information and also a COSHH Certificate upon successful completion of a multiple–choice examination. This will be required to be kept by the individual and a copy can be taken by the employer as required by the Health & Safety Regulations.
