Course programme

Year 1

Apprentices aged 16-24 years: Your apprentice can start the programme in September or March; they will attend College for a minimum of one day per month, where they will work towards the theory and practical elements of the courses. An additional three days per year will also take place to allow for key skills and any required exams. A trainer/assessor will visit the student in their workplace approximately every 12 weeks to observe the NVQ elements.
On-site delivery Adult Apprenticeships (25 plus and national delivery): We can deliver the Apprenticeship to your students in your workplace, they will be visited bi-monthly by a trainer who will cover the practical requirements, and bi-monthly Smart sessions to cover knowledge and understanding. We will need access to the student for that day and a dedicated room to work in. To be eligible for this mode of delivery we generally require a minimum of two students per pathway. During all apprenticeship sign-ups an individual training plan is created, this plans the dates for the forthcoming year and includes days at college, theory sessions and NVQ visits. The Trainer will prepare this with both the learner and yourself to ensure that you agree with the plan. There are eight qualifications available at this level. These comprise mandatory and optional units, including:
Knowledge of the organisation’s printing processes and related information
Set and run machinery within the print industry
Set and run ancillary printing machine equipment
Make lithographic printing plates
Operate digital printing machines
Set and run guillotines
Set and run auto-packing, storage or palletising equipment
Set and run carton-enhancing machinery.
