The private investigator is a professional who collects information and evidence
on behalf of his clients, to follow up and resolve cases of various types: personal,
financial or legal matters. The figure of the private investigator is substantially
governed by the consolidated text of the public security laws (RD 18 June 1931 n.
773) and by the relative regulation of implementation referred to in the royal
decree of 6 May 1940, n. 635, in particular the articles from 257 to 260 which then
refer to the Royal Decree of 26 September 1935 n. 1952 and the Royal Decree 12
November 1936 n. 2144. The 1940 regulation also calls for a specific regulation, to
be issued pursuant to a decree of the Ministry of the Interior, to identify the
minimum characteristics and other requisites required. The figure of the private
detective is different from the one depicted in the television series; it is a
profession that requires various skills, even very specific ones. The services
offered by a private investigator are diverse and can be helpful in resolving
personal, legal or financial matters. Whatever the field of work of the private
detective, what unites every specialization of the investigator is the fulcrum of his
work: in-depth research, identification, collection and reprocessing of information
to achieve the purposes entrusted to him by the client. Having set the client's
objective, the investigator will prepare the work and the means necessary to
collect all the information useful for the case. A very interesting and peculiar
aspect of private detective work, it is that of autonomy of action that distinguishes
this profession. Quite often, investigators spend their day outside the office taking
the necessary actions to investigate the information they need in the field.
