The course has a national and international focus. You will learn about latest developments and research in social work and social care education around the world and the global agenda for social work. In addition, you will develop the professional practice skills needed to work in professional education and training in social work, social care or other relevant sectors; eg educating, mentoring, supporting, assessing and managing others; teamwork and interprofessional practice; and leadership skills. There is a strong emphasis on developing your critical appraisal of research evidence and exploring ethical frameworks.
You will need to successfully complete two 30 credit modules to gain the postgraduate certificate; four 30 credit modules to gain the postgraduate diploma; and four 30 credit modules plus a 'capstone' project and a related article suitable for publication to gain the MA.

This course incorporates recent changes in social work education and professional regulation, eg the Chief Social Workers' Knowledge and Skills Statements; revised Standards of Proficiency for Social Workers set by the Health and Care Professions Council; Dept of Education's Knowledge and Skills Statement for Practice Leaders and Practice Supervisors in Child and Family Social Work and Dept of Health's Knowledge and Skills Statement for Social Work Supervisors in Adult Social Care.
Students undertaking the entire 3-year part-time MA PET route may be eligible to apply for a Postgraduate Loan

This course provides a career development pathway for those wishing to specialise in professional education and training within their professional field relevant to social work and or social care. All modules include practice elements, are research-informed and can be chosen to suit your professional needs. The course is also a springboard for continuation to doctoral studies.
A first or second class honours degree (BA(Hons)/BSc(Hons), or Postgraduate Diploma in a relevant subject to the course and a relevant professional qualification; or
a professional qualification in social work or related profession, and substantial current or recent experience in a relevant setting for the course. 'Substantial' experience may be considered in the light of the applicant's qualitative rather than quantitative experience.
