About this course

Relevant qualifications: a minimum of a Level 3 in the area you wish to teach. You should also have Level 2 qualification in English and maths (or be working towards them).
Record of prior learning and transfers

For students wishing to be considered for entry, the University of South Wales Group or partner college is able, in many instances and taking into consideration the requirements of relevant professional bodies, to accredit prior learning in accordance with its published regulations.

Course programme

The first year is made up of four modules:

  • preparing to teach
  • learning and applying pedagogy
  • planning and assessment
  • professional practice 1

The second year has three modules:

  • enhancing, learning, teaching and assessment
  • the role of ICT in FE and blended learning
  • professional practice 2

Students will need to undertake teaching practice of a minimum of 70 hours each year and must have this arranged before enrolling on the course.

Assessment is based on written assignments, presentations and actual teaching.

Additional information

You will then be invited for an interview and, if successful, you will be offered a place on the course. Costs are £2,550 per year. For information on financial support, including tuition fee loans and fee grants, visit For the teaching practice element of this course, it is likely that you will require a DBS check which costs approximately £44.
