Description of Major
The Human Resource Management major is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to effectively staff and maintain the workforce of organizations. Beginning with a discussion of human behavior, the HRM major emphasizes the impact of such practices as staffing, compensation, training, and benefits on organizational effectiveness. Special emphasis is placed on analysis and development of change strategies designed to improve individual and organizational performance. Legal and ethical concerns in the treatment of employees are also thoroughly reviewed.

In the first two years at FSU, students should take courses to complete the following requirements: General Education requirements, Writing requirement, Multicultural Course requirements, and Prerequisite Coursework requirements. Some courses may fulfill requirements in multiple areas. Electives in the first two years should focus on gaining additional exposure to the social and behavioral sciences, and on improving communication and analytical reasoning skills.
