Progressing with Photography Level 1

This course allows you to learn photography in an enjoyable way. You will achieve a Coleg Gwent Certificate in photography, but the emphasis for the course is on building skills and enjoying photography.

You will cover:

• Shutter/aperture/ISO


• Composition


• Experimental angles


• Metering


• Photoshop manipulations


• Landscape photography


• Manual mode


• Portrait photography

The course is structured around learning a topic or subject in class on a weekly basis, then photographing in relation to that photographic area over the next week. There will be several location trips/field trips throughout the course and you will get feedback from tutors and peers on a weekly basis, via slideshow, of student imagery with a group critique.

This course is for anyone who works or wants to improve with their photography, get to know their camera better or challenge themselves with artistic photography.

What is expected from a learner studying this course?

You should be able to use your knowledge, skills and judgement to initiate and complete photographic tasks and procedures. This includes being able to put into practice the photographic techniques you learn in class. You also need to be aware of different viewpoints or approaches within your area of study or work. You would be expected to participate in group viewings of imagery and to work as part of a group in class.
