This specification highlights the scientific perspective within Psychology. There is a key emphasis on data, inferential statistics and research methodology. A Level Psychology introduces you to the range of research methods psychologists use to find out about human nature. We study the biological aspect of anti-social behavior, 5 contemporary debates including the reliability of eyewitness testimony. We also learn about conditioning techniques & how they shape our behaviour.

What you need to know
How will I study?

Component 1: Psychology Past to Present - You will study the main 5 approaches; Biological, Psychodynamic, Behavioural, Cognitive & Positive. Component 2: In this unit you will study two more approaches; Social & Developmental Psychology through classic research and also learn about a variety of research methods used in psychology. Numeracy skills are key in this component because we learn about specific inferential statistics and how to calculate these with various data sets.
How will I be taught?

Learning on this course will be varied. It is classroom based with weekly assessments and use of Chionline for independent learning. Flipped learning will be used weekly with the expectation that this is fully completed and you are prepared for each lesson. You are encouraged to participate in lessons as much as you can, as this will aid your understanding of the subject. With 4.5 hours a week of teaching time you are expected to do a minimum of 4.5 hours extra work outside of lesson time.
How will I be assessed?

At the end of this 2 year linear A-Level course there will be three exams each lasting 2 hours & 15 minutes. The marks obtained in these exams determines the A Level grade. You will be assessed at the end of year one to see if you can progress to year two.
