What is this course about?
The Access to Psychology route is part of the Modular Access Programme (MAP).. This programme offers a wide range of possible subject routes, and flexible day or evening attendance patterns which may fit around your work, domestic or other commitments.

Who is this course for?
The Psychology route is for those who wish to progress onto degrees which will lead onto careers in clinical psychology, educational psychology, occupational psychology, health psychology, forensic psychology, sports psychology, counselling and related fields such as marketing, human resources, public relations, teaching and social work.

What do I need to get on the course?
There are no fixed requirements. Access applicants may have no or few qualifications, or qualifications which are not recognised by universities because they were attained long ago or in certain foreign countries. In deciding whether applicants are suitable for the MAP we are more concerned that you demonstrate academic potential, motivation and commitment. This is determined through an entry test and interview. For the Psychology route the entry test will consist of a written assessment and a Maths assessment (unless you already have Maths GCSE at Grades A-C or equivalent).

What will I study?
You will register for the Access to HE Diploma (Humanities and Social Science). For this Diploma you will study academic Study Skills, Psychology and Sociology . If you do not have Maths GCSE at Grades A-C or equivalent you will also be expected to study Maths GCSE or GCSE Equivalence. If you do have a Maths GCSE you will choose from one option which may include the following: Economics, English Literature, History, Law or Philosophy.

What qualification will I get?
If you pass the course you will gain the Access to HE Diploma (Humanities and Social Science). You will also get a certificate listing all of the units or topics you have studied.

What can I do after the course?
You can progress onto a range of possible degrees in psychology including psychology degrees specialising in clinical psychology, counselling, child development, criminology,

human resources and marketing. The course tutor for the Psychology.route, and our careers and higher education advisors, will give you advice and guidance on this, and on your application to university.

How do I get on the course?
Complete a College application form. You will then be invited in for an information briefing on the Modular Access Programme, and the Psychology route, and to take the entry test.

How much does the course cost? Concessionary students pay a £40 annual registration charge which covers any courses where concessions are available.
