Module 1: Nature of a Client’s Illness

1.1 Examine the purpose and process of psychotherapy, treatment offered and the format for evaluation

1.2 Define the role a therapies plays

1.3 Summarise how a person begins life

1.4 List 3 areas an evaluation should take into consideration

Module 2: General Appearance and Behaviour

2.1 Discuss what observations you should make regarding a client's appearance and behaviour

2.2 Examine the following:

  • Delusions
  • Hallucinations
  • Illusions

2.3 Identify the different categories of delusions

2.4 Define the makeup of a constructive diagnosis

Module 3: Treatment by Communication

3.1 Summarise the importance of communication in psychotherapy and the various methods of implementation

3.2 Discuss what may be included in supportive therapy

3.3 Examine the basis of supportive psychotherapy

3.4 Analyse what is termed as the essence of brief psychotherapy

Module 4: Functional Mental Disorders

4.1 Introduce and discuss the functional neuroses

4.2 Explain your understanding of a hysterical reaction

4.3 Define an obsessive compulsive reaction

4.4 Describe how you would treat an obsessive compulsive reaction

Module 5: Affective Disorders

5.1 Discuss the group of disorders which are primarily a reaction to stress and give suggested treatment

5.3 Analyse depressive illness

Module 6: Psychosomatic Reactions

6.1 Summarise your understanding of psychosomatic reactions

6.2 Examine anorexia and hypochondria with their respective treatments

Module 7: Presenting Complaint

7.1 Analyse the contribution of intelligence, emotional integration an instinctual drive to the personality and introduce the psycho-dynamic theory

7.2 Evaluate the meaning of intelligence

7.4 Identify the reasons for material being repressed by the client

8.1 Discuss hypnosis and the role it plays in therapy

8.2 Examine drawbacks of performing hypnosis tests
