Course programme

Focus Professionals Training delivered the ptlls qualification via blended learning. This will involve distance learning and attending workshps for the micro-teach session. The course can be completed two weeks distance learning and half a day workshop for the micro-teach session.

About the course

The Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) award is for those who are or who want to be a teacher, tutor or trainer and need to be able to plan, prepare and implement learning for a specialist area. PTLLS is the initial award, which has been developed to provide a threshold licence to teach in the FE sector in England.

This qualification is a requirement for all those who are new to teaching, training or tutoring in publicly funded provision. The course is also for trained tutors or teachers who want to update their underpinning knowledge and teaching or training skills .

The course is offered at either level 3 or 4. Level 3 involves describing, explaining and
some evaluation and referencing. Level 4 is much more theoretical, and involves the ability to critically analyse,use specific referencing, and carry out detailed reflection and evaluation.

Course Structure

The award is made up of Five assignments covering the teaching role, teaching and learning approaches, session planning, delivering inclusive sessions and assessment, and which include a minimum of 15 minutes observed micro teaching practice and a further 45 minutes observing others teach. Learners should complete a proforma for each assignment.

You can study for this course either online via distance learning or attend three weekend workshop. Our distance learning can be completed within two weeks. The course is 30 hours guided study and 30 hours self study. Completion depends on learner's progress. Full support will be provided by a tutor. We will also provide a student resources pack to assist you achieve your qualification.
