Public First Aid Aimed at people who would like to gain knowledge of First Aid and/or want to obtain a certificate of competence but do not need to meet Health & Safety Regulations. The Public First Aid Course is presented over 18 hours (3 x 6 hour sessions) over a period of 3 days. Each course has a maximum of 12 students - the minimum being 8 students. Presentation concentrates on practical exercises with the necessary theory knowledge provided in an informal atmosphere. Each student is provided with the current First Aid Manual for future reference. The instructor will assess theory knowledge gained by way of oral questioning prior to a practical assessment by an external verifier. Sucessful applicants will be issued with a Certificate of Competence valid for a period of three (3) years from the date of the completed course. The syllabus includes -
>Initial assessment of the casualty
>Managing the scene and First Aid priorities
>The Recovery Position
>Resuscitation (CPR)
>Shock;Hypoxia and Fainting
>Heart Attack / Angina
>Breathing Disorders
>Wounds & Bleeding
>Dislocations, Strains/Sprains & Fractures
>Disorders of the Nervous System
>Environmental Injuries
>Medical Conditions
