Course programme
Help to take care of your nation’s health. On our foundation degree course you’ll learn to promote the wellbeing of individuals, families, households and the wider community. As a qualified public health professional, a range of careers will be open to you.
Helping to look after the public’s health is critically important. It benefits individuals – but also the health service and society as a whole.
If you already work in public health, our course provides an educational qualification, as well as continuing professional development. You may be working as a community-based member of staff, or you may be managing a project team and have responsibility for those staff.
You’ll look at how societies are structured, how they function, and how this affects individuals and populations. You’ll consider how public health interventions can have a positive impact on people’s health and fitness. You’ll learn about issues directly relevant to your job, and how to apply them to your work. And finally, you’ll investigate wider themes in healthcare work.
Our course takes place in the classroom and online. You’ll need access to a computer and the internet, along with basic IT skills, so that you can use our virtual learning environment (VLE) and digital library.
The VLE allows all our students to learn collaboratively, contributing to a richer learning experience. Meanwhile, our digital library for gives you access to electronic journals, e-books, databases and other helpful resources at any time.
Our tutors offer plenty of support: face-to-face as well as by email, telephone and the VLE. There is also an IT helpdesk and you’ll have a student advisor.
We’ve developed this course with reference to the Royal Society of Public Health Skills framework.
Please note that international students can apply to study this course in Chelmsford only.
