Course programme

This course looks to provide a foundation in a variety of skills required to carry out work in the public services; the Armed Forces, Police, Fire, Ambulance and Prison Services. It prepares you both physically and mentally for progression into demanding public service careers.


You will learn about the different public services, the work undertaken and the careers they have to offer. The course will develop skills such as self-discipline, fitness, teamwork and communication.


You will require 5 GCSEs at Grades A*- C preferably including English Language. Or a BTEC Level 2 Diploma at Merit or above.


You will be invited to attend an interview, and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy, to establish any support required.

In the first year you will study a compulsory unit comprising of Government policy and two further units – Planning for Major Incidents and War and terrorism. In the second year you have two compulsory units to complete Leadership & teamwork and Citizenship & diversity.
