This qualification will provide you with an introduction to working within the Public Services and is ideal for a person who wishes to pursue a career within this area.An array of Public Services will be explored to ensure that the course offers a diverse insight in to progression opportunities.A range of skills will be developed throughout the course, such as problem solving, time management, planning and teamwork.On successful completion of the Level 2 Diploma, you may be able to progress to level 3 study.

All students receive full tutorial support, individual and group tutorials each week.  If you require additional support, you can receive such help through our Learning Support Centre, which provides academic coaching for those who need it.

Entrepreneurial Activities

Warwickshire College is committed to creating an Entrepreneurial College by creating work based opportunities within the industry.For example, students will have the opportunity to organise charity events, meet and work with people from the public services, such as Army Reserves and police, participate in volunteering activities, British Colleges for Sport and with other sporting groups.All of these activities will develop the students' skills and experience for university or work progressions.

How will I be assessed?

Written assignments, presentations both poster and oral, and synoptic end unit assessments are all assessment techniques used on this programme.

What is the entry process?

Interview.

Applicants are encouraged to apply on-line, so that an interview can be arranged.  What are the entry requirements?

Minimum qualifications: Level 1

Four GCSEs at grade D or above plus minimum of Entry Level 3 in Literacy and Numeracy is required

A good school/college report containing evidence of attendance, good behaviour and attainment will also be asked for.

What else do I need to know?

Students must attend all aspects of the Study Programme, including Work Experience, Non-Qualification sessions, Enterprise Weeks and further study to gain a grade C, or above in English and Maths.

Length of Course and Days of Attendance

The course is full time for 1 year.

Timetables will be between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm Monday to Friday, based on college terms. The course is delivered over 4 days, with the fifth day being a study day. Students are not normally expected to take holiday during term time and they are encouraged to book medical appointments outside their timetabled lessons. Lessons are taught at our Rugby Centre with access to a gym, and outdoor/indoor sport facilities.

 Fees

Students wishing to undertake the qualification who are aged over 19 years may be required to pay fees.

Uniform

All clothing to be paid for by the learner.  A College polo shirt is a requirement for the course and instructions on how to order this online, will be given when a place is offered on the course.

Students attending this qualification, must wear suitable sports and fitness wear for this course during practical activity and must wear trainers. In addition for health and safety reasons and industry expectations, students will be expected to remove jewellery during exercise. Any facial piercings or earings will need to be taped over, or removed during practical activity. Students are permitted to wear studs in the ears.


English and Maths

English and maths qualifications are vitally important for future employers and universities, so the government has made it a priority for students to improve these skills.

Entry Level / Level 1 and Level 2: We’re here to help you on your journey, so if you do not achieve grade A*-C in GCSE English and/or maths, then you will study English and/or maths as part of your college course.

Students who achieve a D grade will be placed on the relevant GCSE programme, while students who achieve an E or below will be assessed to ensure they are placed on the right study programme for their ability.

Level 3 programmes: You will need to meet the course entry requirements specified on the course information above. For the majority of our Level 3 courses, students will need grade A*-C in GCSE English and/or maths. If this is not specified in the course entry requirement, then you may be able to study English and/or maths as part of your college course.

What can I do after this course?

You will find a wide range of career opportunities open to you within the public services industry.

Students who complete the course with an overall Merit grade have the opportunity to progress to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Public Services (Uniformed). This is subject to our Internal Progression Policy, which involves an interview and looking closely at attendance, attitude and attainment during your previous study.

All students may be charged for materials e.g. equipment, clothing etc.
