About this course
You will need five GCSEs at grade C or above including English, or at least a Merit at BTEC First Diploma or equivalent qualification. You will be expected to achieve GCSE grade C Mathematics during the course if you have not already done so.

About the Course
A full-time course of practical activities and lessons. You should also be prepared to develop your own skills in teamwork and personal fitness. This course is equivalent to two A levels. It covers twelve units over two years including the five Core Units:
• Government, policies and the public services. Looking at the tovernment and how policies impact on the services.
• Team leadership in the uniformed public services including different leadership styles and what makes an effective team.
• Citizenship, contemporary society and the public services. Researching how different views of citizenship have developed and the qualities of a 'good' citizen.
• Team development in public services. How teamwork is used within the uniformed public services.
• Understanding discipline within the uniformed public services along with the complex nature of authority.
Additional Units include:
• Diversity and the public services covering their duty to provide equality of service to all members of the community.
• Physical preparation and fitness for the uniformed public services covering the major body systems, the effects of lifestyle, to plan and undertake a fitness training programme.
• Command and control in the uniformed services covering rank and responsibilities and to be able to demonstrate command and control task activities.
• Uniformed public services employment where you will identify job opportunities, terms and conditions, training and the application process.
• Understanding behaviour in uniformed public service employment. Researching the different types of communication behaviour and ways of overcoming possible conflict.
Uniformed public service is an important element of the course.

How is the course assessed?
In addition to the National Certificate, you will take either a GCSE or an AS/A level. There is continuous assessment through the practical and written assignments. You should also be prepared to develop your skills in teamwork and fitness.
CSLA is an enhancement course that is recommended alongside this course.
Fees
No Course Fees for Under 19's. Over 19's must pay, or claim Level 2 or Level 3 Entitlement for FREE courses .
What next?
You may go directly to employment in the armed forces, emergency services or prison service, or you can choose to continue into higher education.
