NATIONAL VOCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Upgrading from CPCS Trained Operator Card (Red) to Competence Card (Blue)

Under the CPCS Scheme rules the Red Trained Operator Card is valid for two years and is not renewable.

To enable progress to the Blue Competence Card an individual is required to prove operating competence through the achievement of a relevant full NVQ.

As an approved CPCS Test Centre, we are able to guide each candidate through the Level 2 Plant Operations NVQ from registration to achievement, allowing the application to CPCS for the Competence Card.

We are able to provide complete end to end service, analysing training needs, arranging individual training plans, delivering training and NVQ Assessment, leading to candidate obtaining the required card.

What’s Involved:
To gain an NVQ is proof of competence; this is achieved via a combination of visual assessment and evidence. It is important that any previous written evidence like certificates from other formal training is presented to your assessor for inclusion within you portfolio that will be built up during your assessment process, your Assessor will help and guide you through this. A minimum of two site visits will be necessary; more visits are needed for additional categories.

During a site visit the assessor will require to assess candidates against the NVQ criteria for each category, this should be in a live working environment. Candidates will be asked under pinning knowledge questions to endorse understanding. Each candidate will be assessed on their understanding and compliance of safe working practices.

NVQ’s have changed, the new qualifications achieved by workers in the construction sector is now called NVQ Diploma or NVQ Certificate.

As part of the new QCF, every unit and qualification have a credit value (one credit represents 10 hours, showing how much time it takes to complete) and a level between Entry level and level 8. There are three sizes of qualifications in the QCF: Awards (1 to 12 credits), Certificates (13 to 36 credits) and Diplomas (37 credits or more). In almost every area, construction NVQs have been converted successfully to match this new structure.
