Quantity surveyors and commercial managers operate in all sectors of the built environment, and are primarily concerned with the value and financial management of construction projects and the subsequent building life cycle. They have specialist skills and knowledge relating to cost and contract management, which require an expert understanding of construction techniques, procurement options and legal matters, and the sustainable use of resources. Quantity surveyors provide clients with detailed information on which to base decisions and are valued for their creative ideas and solutions at the early stages of a construction project. They add value by monitoring the functions of cost, time and quality in projects of any scale. The commercial manager's role is vital to the success of the construction project and requires excellent business sense and a good understanding of management and construction processes. They assess the value of work to be done and manage and monitor costs as the project progresses. This course gives you the skills and knowledge to take up these roles, along with the transferable and cognitive skills necessary for lifelong personal and professional development. Our construction courses share a common Year 1, so students interact with those studying different pathways, gain some knowledge of the work of all professionals working in the construction industry promoting the interdisciplinary nature of the modern construction industry. Throughout the course, construction technology and management remain central, the issue of health and safety is addressed, and the importance of sustainability is considered. All of our courses are delivered using an enquiry-based blended learning approach involving workshops, lectures, tutorials and independent study. Our technology-enhanced learning supports independent study via synchronous online lectures, tutorials and seminars, which are captured and stored to enable you to revisit sessions online after the
