Course programme
On completion of the module the student will be able to:
- Perform a detailed design and analysis of some specialist radar techniques and applications
- Design waveforms and critically evaluate their performance in a radar system
- Explain the various techniques of target recognition using radar together with their respective advantages, limitations and areas of technical difficulty
- Describe methods of image processing and the methods of exploiting SAR image data.

The course covers a broad range of advanced radar techniques and specialist applications, associated theory and design, and practical application. Topics cover:
- Pulse Doppler Radar - application (airborne Fire Control Radar (FCR))
- Millimetre Wave Radar - application (active seekers) Waveform Design
- Micro-Doppler radar and signature analysis
- Non Cooperative Target Recognition (NCTR).
- Clutter - application Maritime Surveillance Radar (MSR)
- Multi-Function Radar (MFR)
- Bistatic and multistatic radar
- 3D SAR, SAR image processing
- Over the Horizon (OTH) radar in the HF band
- Ultra-wide band (UWB) radar - application Ground penetrating radar (GPR)
- Track-While-Scan (TWS) – application (AEW)
- Differential Angle Tracking.
